Over the years, many of you have discussed various concerns related to deep body cleanses, whether that be a parasite cleanse, a general toxin cleanse, or a candida cleanse. Over time, I began to start my cleanses with a lymphatic detox cleanse to make sure everything I was trying to get out of my body had clear passageways to leave. I provided links above. As always, talk to your medical professional before starting cleanses and supplements.
I learned lymphatic drainage in massage school last year and wasn't initially in love with it as a practice, but I didn't grasp how much I needed it until months later. I met Krysten at a mutual workplace and discussed our recent health journeys. I had two surgeries in 2024, and Krysten is a cancer survivor. She shared what she learned about the lymph system from a post-surgical perspective, and we eventually agreed to trade services.
The first time I worked with her, we realized our massages weren't similar in style, but similar in the sense that we pull from multiple disciplines to provide solutions to physical goals and concerns. If one were blindfolded, a person could easily tell us apart off of style alone, but either massage would be like nothing the client ever experienced.
When I was brave enough to try a lymphatic massage during one of our trade sessions, we worked on each other for two hours. During that time, I got up to urinate four times!!!!! She helped my system release so much fluid. The only thing I regret is that I didn't weigh myself before and after the massage. I felt lighter and looked better. I drank water during and after the massage to help my body flush out anything else that needed to be released.
As massage therapists, we can feel the difference between fat tissue, middle tissue, and water sitting within the tissue. When I feel this in clients, I have always recommended they seek out a lymphatic massage, and now I send them directly to Krysten.
Are Lymphatic Massages Right For You?
Have you ever felt a little "puffy," sluggish, or like your body just isn't quite flushing out what it needs to? You're not alone! Our bodies are incredible machines, constantly working to keep us healthy, and a key player in that process is often overlooked: the lymphatic system. And at Soul Trine, we're thrilled to introduce you to the gentle yet profound benefits of lymphatic massage, now offered by our compassionate and skilled therapist, Krysten.
So, What Exactly is Lymphatic Massage?
Often misunderstood, lymphatic massage, also known as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), is a specialized form of massage therapy that focuses on stimulating your lymphatic system. Unlike deep tissue massage, which targets muscle knots, MLD uses very light, rhythmic strokes and gentle pressure to encourage the natural flow of lymph fluid throughout your body.
Think of your lymphatic system as your body's unsung hero, a crucial part of your immune system and waste removal. It's a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that collects excess fluid, waste products, toxins, and even bacteria from your tissues and transports them back to your bloodstream to be eliminated. When this system isn't functioning optimally, fluid can build up, leading to swelling, discomfort, and a general feeling of sluggishness. Lymphatic massage gently nudges this system into action, helping it to efficiently cleanse and detoxify your body.
Who Can Benefit from Lymphatic Massage?
The beauty of lymphatic massage lies in its wide range of applications and benefits. It's a truly holistic therapy that can support many different individuals on their wellness journeys.
At Soul Trine, we believe in tailoring care to individual needs, and Krysten, a graduate of Indiana Wellness College and a licensed massage therapist since 2017, brings a unique perspective to her practice. After bravely surviving her own battle with cancer, Krysten's focus shifted from sports massage to a more holistic approach, leading her to expand her services to include specialized modalities like lymphatic massage. Her personal journey has deeply informed her understanding of the body's healing capabilities and her commitment to supporting others.
Here are some common scenarios where lymphatic massage can be incredibly beneficial:
Reducing Swelling and Fluid Retention: This is perhaps the most well-known benefit. MLD is highly effective for reducing swelling (edema) caused by various factors, including post-surgical recovery (like after cosmetic procedures or joint replacements), injuries, or conditions like lymphedema (often seen after cancer treatments involving lymph node removal).
Boosting Your Immune System: By helping to move toxins and waste through the lymphatic system, MLD can support a stronger immune response, making your body better equipped to fight off illness.
Detoxification: Feeling a bit rundown? Lymphatic massage can aid in the body's natural detoxification process, helping to eliminate metabolic waste and environmental toxins.
Reducing Inflammation: Many chronic conditions involve inflammation. MLD can help reduce inflammation throughout the body, leading to decreased pain and improved mobility.
Improving Skin Health: By encouraging better circulation and detoxification, lymphatic massage can contribute to clearer, healthier, and more radiant skin, reducing puffiness and promoting a natural glow.
Post-Workout Recovery: For athletes or those experiencing muscle soreness, MLD can help reduce inflammation and speed up recovery by clearing metabolic byproducts.
General Wellness and Relaxation: Even if you don't have a specific condition, the gentle, rhythmic nature of lymphatic massage can be deeply relaxing and promote a sense of overall well-being. It can be a wonderful way to de-stress and reconnect with your body.
Who Should Avoid Lymphatic Massage?
While incredibly beneficial for many, it's important to know that lymphatic massage isn't suitable for everyone. There are certain contraindications where it should be avoided or approached with extreme caution, and always with a doctor's clearance.
You should avoid lymphatic massage if you have:
Acute infections or fever: MLD can potentially spread infection throughout the body. It's best to wait until you are fully recovered.
Congestive Heart Failure: Moving excess fluid can put additional strain on an already compromised heart.
Blood Clots (DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis): There's a risk of dislodging a clot, which can lead to serious complications.
Active Cancer: While oncology massage is a specialized field that Krysten also offers, lymphatic massage for active cancer should only be performed with explicit clearance and guidance from your oncologist, as there is a theoretical risk of spreading cancer cells.
Kidney Failure: The kidneys are crucial for fluid balance, and MLD can overload an already struggling system.
If you have any underlying health conditions, especially those affecting your heart, kidneys, or immune system, it is always essential to consult with your doctor before receiving lymphatic massage. Krysten is trained to assess your needs and will always prioritize your safety and well-being.

How Should You Book a Lymphatic Massage?
According to Krysten:
60 Minutes gives her time to focus on half of the body. This is mainly for chronic and acute cases.
90 Minutes allows her to do a brief full-body lymphatic overview. This session is great for first-timers who want a full body experience of people who have experienced lymphatic massage before, but may be low on time.
120 Minutes provides enough time to give the full body attention and open the entire lymph system of your body.
When scheduling your session, consider your goals.
